Dividing by Sanjana and Aparna

DMSCB DMSCB stands for Does McDonald Sell Cheese Burgers. That helps you remember to Divide, Multiply, Subtract, Check, and Bring down. The divisor is what you divide by. Our divisor is 7. The dividend is what you divide into. Our dividend is 5,389.

How we got zero 7 doesn’t go into 5 so we put a zero on top. Dividing is the first step.

How we got seven Because 7 does not go into 5, we go to goes into 53 seven times so we put the 7 on top. Multiplying is the next step.7x7 is 49 and since subtracting is the next step we do which is…

Checking 53-49=4.4 is smaller than 7 so we are O.K. Then we bring down the 8 so we have 48.

Dividing comes back Since we finished DMSCB we go to back to the beginning. 7 goes into 48 6 times so we put a six on the top.

Multiplying and subtracting strike again 7x6 is 42 so we put the 42 below the 48. Then we subtract. The answer is …

Checking part is 6 so then we check. 6 is smaller than 7 so we are okay.

Bringing down comes again We have to bring down the 9.

Going back For the third time we divide. 7 goes into 69 nine times so we put the nine on top.

Multiplying and Subtracting part 3 Now we do 9x7 which is 63. Next you have to do and that equals …

Finishing !!! is 6. Since we do not have anything to bring down our remainder is 6 and our quotient is 769 R6. We are finished!!!
