The Parts of A Division Problem 2 ) 24 12 Divisor Dividend Quotient

Set up the problem 826 ÷ 5 Step 1: Divide Divide 5 into the first number of the dividend. 1 5 ) 826 How many times does 5 fit into 8? Write that number directly above the first number of the dividend.

Step 2:Multiply Multiply the divisor by the first number in your quotient. 5 ) 826 1 5 Write that number directly underneath the number in your quotient.

Step 3: Subtract Subtract the 5 from 8. 5 ) 826 1 5 3 Write your answer directly under the 8.

Step 4: Bring Down 5 ) 826 5 3 1 Look to the next number in the dividend. 2 Draw an arrow under the 2 and bring it down next to the 3. This is the next number you have to divide into!

Now to finish the rest of the problem, repeat steps 1 through 4 until there is no number left to bring down.

Step 1: Divide 1 5 ) 826 How many times does 5 fit into 32? Write that number directly above the second number of the dividend. 32 5 6

Step 2: Multiply 5 ) 826 3 5 16 2 30 Multiply 5 by 6. Write the answer under the 32

Step 3: Subtract 5 ) 826 16 32 30 5 02 Subtract 30 from 32. Write the answer directly underneath the 30.

Step 4: Bring Down 5 ) 826 16 32 30 5 02 Look to the next number in the dividend. Draw an arrow under the number and bring it down to the line you are working on. 6

One more time! Repeat steps 1 through 4 to solve the next part of the problem!

Step 1: Divide 5) 826 16 5 32 30 26 How many times can 5 go into 26 without going over? 5 Write that number directly above the 6.

Step 2: Multiply 5 ) 826 5 32 30 165 26 25 Multiply 5 by 5 and write that number directly under the 26.

Step 3: Subtract 5 ) 826 165 5 32 30 26 25 1 Subtract 25 from 26. Write that number underneath the subtraction line.

Step 4: Bring Down There is no number left to bring down and 5 is not a factor of 1. This means that 1 is the remainder. Write an “r” next to the answer and put the remainder value next to it. 5 ) 826 165 5 32 30 26 25 1 r 1

Now You Try! 3 ) 968 Step 1? Divide Step 2? Multiply Step 3? Subtract Step 4? Bring Down 3 9 06 2 6 08 2 6 2 r 2 Finish with the remainder!
