Personal contact Use Steering Group members for personal contact with operational managers. Use ULR’s for personal contact with staff. Union-Officer meetings Speak to managers and ascertain issues, sensitivities, concerns. e.g. Training/briefing venues – Do NOT use Waste Depot!
Influence Policy Senior staff on steering group – can access and influence corporate policy. SfL in Sutton Plan, Corporate OD Business Plan etc. Raise profile of SfL in Equality & Diversity/HR policies – keeps people talking! Unions keep SfL on agenda
Communication Keep Steering Group informed. Use , telephone, meetings. Posters etc only go so far. Feed info to CE via SfL Champion. Invite Leader and PA’s to events – even if he can’t attend. Brief PA’s on achievements. Sneak in to see CE to discuss his specific role at events!
SfL Programme Design any training to meet operational needs e.g. time of day (Waste) Tailor training for operational issues e.g. employability (Care Homes) Ensure that programme picks up added extra’s – e.g. ICT, Dyslexia etc. Keeps managers on-side and supportive. Be clear about what programme will not/cannot do.
