H OW TO BECOME AN ORGANIC FARMER ? By the Dutch team

W HAT IS ORGANIC FARMING ? In simple words: it’s a way of farming with respect for the environment.

W HAT DO YOU NEED, TO BECOME AN ORGANIC FARMER ? Respect the environment Try to have as less influence on the region as possible Minimise the use of chemical synthetic pesticides and antibiotics

T HE ANIMALS Respect the livestock. Let the livestock go outside and graze, let them have an as healthy and natural life as possible. Dont use too much antibiotics in their food. - A big part of it goes into the ground and water, when you drink this water it is unhealthy.

T HE PLANTS The plants should be almost free of chemical synthetic pesticides. It is smart to use plants adapted to the local conditions. To use the nutrients in the ground optimal, it’s good to grow different kinds of plants each year.

I MPORTANT RULES ACCORDING TO THE EU There are strict limits for the use of chemical synthetic pesticides, synthetic fertilizers and antibiotics. Genetically modified organisms are not allowed. The EU checks all the organic farms at least once a year.

T O SUM UP Organic farmers should have only little influence on the area by using as less chemicals as possible, and leave little waste. Animals should be able to go outside and express their natural behaviour. The most important is that they respect the environment, that’s the way to become an organic farmer.
