Positive responses to the use of data:

It will show them where they are and what they need to work on.

Knowing what to focus on with the limited amount of time we have.

To focus on the most useful assessments and not over assess our students.

If data is timely and relevant it can be used to guide and improve instruction.

Data used to investigate many questions, teaching practices, etc… I could use this data to coach and encourage other colleagues.

Teachers may focus on certain areas where the students are struggling.

Time together with peers other than monthly grade level meetings. Also time to look at data and information.

I liked that Jennifer Morrison ed all other students families links to the classs average grades.

Having a son in school I would find it helpful to see where he compares to others.

Sometimes may be all students had difficulty with an assessment so his 65% could have possibly been a good grade.

Posting class averages may be a good way to foster student and parent awareness. Also, post median, mode, etc…

Data can be used to determine areas which need more focus and to identify areas in which we are successful.

Data is a tool that can help me reach the goals of the district. I think it can be useful to modify and drive what we teach.

However, I wonder at what point does all the testing and implementing affect the time and quality of teaching students.

Highlights connections between curriculum areas.

Knowing the areas of strengths and weaknesses will give focus to my instruction, planning and curriculum.

Use of teams will benefit all department and students.

Knowing individuals weaknesses and strengths. Pinpointing areas of weakness and strengths.

It can show me the weaknesses and strengths of my students.

Help me focus on individual needs. Improve general classroom instruction in overall weak areas.

Having time to work with/collate and analyze data and then implement practices accordingly could/would be greatly beneficial.

It will help me diagnose specific areas where students are weak to focus my instruction.

Focusing lessons on weaknesses. Eliminating time currently used on strengths. Knowing what their weaknesses are to help them.

Collecting and viewing data on a regular basis, maybe twice a year is beneficial in meeting the needs of our students.

If we are asked to complete an improvement plan, that would force me to become a more reflective teacher. (Not that I dont think and improve my instruction) This would make it more concrete.

I agree with the premise of this article. Focus my instruction on areas of weakness.

Look at objectives and data to not waste time.

Keeping things simple allows teachers to use their time to actually help the students rather than keep up with all the paperwork.
