Antenna Group OE-254/GRC PURPOSE Provide in-depth training and evaluation in the installation of Antenna Group OE-254/GRC.

Install Antenna Group OE-254/GRC Tasks, Conditions and Standards TASK: Prepare the OE-254/GRC for installation. Inventory parts, components and running spare parts making sure all necessary safety equipment is on hand. Erect antenna to standard. CONDITIONS: Soldiers given complete OE-254/GRC antenna. (IAW TM 11-5985-357-13, Aug 1978) STANDARDS: Soldiers will demonstrate ability to fully erect OE-254/GRC Antenna. (IAW TM 11-5985-357-13, Aug 1978)

Description OE-254/GRC * is an omni-directional, biconical antenna designed for broadband operation without field adjustment from 30 to 88 MHz frequency range up to approximately 500 watts. The antenna system includes: O A standard lightweight mast having a maximum height of 41 feet and 9 inches. O A canvass carrying bag with assembly and erection procedures. O All necessary guy assemblies, stakes, base plate, tools, and other ancillary equipment required to make a complete antenna system. O All necessary coaxial cables and cable adapters.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS A. Positioning baseplate and guy stakes B. Assembling antenna equipment C. Assemble the antenna D. Erection using two persons E. Lowering the antenna

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS A. Positioning baseplate and guy stakes: 1. Place the baseplate with the ribs up where the antenna is to be erected. 2. Drive the stake of the mast and base assembly through the center hole of the baseplate with the hammer. 3. Drive the two pin stakes through opposite corner holes of the baseplate. 4. Locate the position of the four guy stake assemblies at a maximum radius of 25 feet (7.62 meters) from the center of the baseplate and a 90 degree angle between stakes. The baseplate ribs should be in alignment with two opposite stake assemblies. 5. The guy stake positioning radius can be approximated by using the five lower mast sections, the lower adapter assembly, and three upper mast sections fitted together to mark the guy stake location. 6. Drive the four guy stakes at a 45 degree angle into the earth facing away from the mast.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS B. Assembling antenna equipment. (If assembly is not to raised to its full height, the lower and upper adapter assemblies must be used.) 1. Assemble five lower mast sections by inserting the keyed male ends into the keyed female ends. 2. Place the bottom section of the assembly over the movable portion of the mast and base assembly. 3. Slide the guy plate, color coded blue, onto the male end of the lower adapter assembly. Assemble the lower adapter assembly to the five lower mast sections. 4. Assemble five upper mast sections and join them with the six already assembled. 5. Slide a guy plate, color coded red, onto the male end of the upper adapter assembly. Assemble the upper adapter assembly to the mast. 6. Turn the guy plates so that one hole of each is uppermost. 7. Attach the guy hooks, color coded blue, of the four lower guy ropes to the holes of the lower guy plate.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS 8. Extend the guy ropes to the anchor assemblies and attach the free end guy loop of the guy snubber to the anchor hooks. When attached this way, each guy rope can be pulled as taut as desired by lengthening the guy loop. 9. Attach the upper four guys, color coded red, to the red guy plate and anchor assemblies in a similar manner. 10. Pull the four guy ropes (two upper and two lower) taut a secure them. The method for pulling guy lines taut is as follows: A. Remove guy from snubber lock. B. Pull snubber along guy in direction towards mast. C. Secure guy by looping guy under snubber. 11. Lay the two bottom (lower and upper) guy ropes along one set of taut side guy ropes and adjust to the same length. Attach the bottom guy ropes to the back guy stake. 12. Coat the insulating extension screw thread with anticorrosion compound (silicone). Screw the insulating extension into the feedcone structure (handtight only) and assemble to the mast. Do not use unusual force. 13.Coat the screw threads of the AB-24, MS-117A and MS-116A with anticorrosion compound. Assemble the antenna elements by screwing together six sets of mast sections, AB-24, MS-117A and MS-166A in each section.

CONCLUSION SUMMARY TASK: Prepare the OE-254/GRC for installation. Inventory parts, components and running spare parts making sure all necessary safety equipment is on hand. Erect antenna to standard.
