Rocket Toss and Toss Variations LE ROY HIGH SCHOOL

1ST HALF TABLE OF CONTENTS STATS DON’T LIE: WHY RUN ROCKET? ATTENTION TO DETAIL: PRE-SNAP PRIORITIES IN TOSS WE TRUST: POST-SNAP EXECUTION ROCKET CLIPS

STATS DON’T LIE: WHY RUN ROCKET? 3 years running rocket: - 70% more rushing yards/season (+1,530) - 72% more points/season (+156) - 100% more rushing TD’s/season (+23) We needed a play that would put tremendous pressure on the defense and open up off-tackle.

Pre-Snap Backfield Wing alignment is static. For us, that means 1.5 x 2.5 yards. Do not adjust because of play. Motion depth to 6 yards and flatten. The wing needs to be in line with the full back at snap. Full speed! QB sends motion. We teach “Lift, PAUSE, Ready Go!”

Pre-Snap Block Recog First things first….who is the wing blocking? The wing’s decision in most cases makes or breaks the play. Basic rules taught first day of camp and hold true in most cases….you block the first man to play-side. Play-side guard needs to recognize PILB. Chalk talk scenarios

Post-Snap Backfield FB dives backside and gets out of the way! Wing in motion will stay flat at the snap and NOT move towards the LOS before receiving the toss. The toss will be received at or just outside of the TE’s alignment. The QB will reverse out with all momentum heading in the direction of where the toss is being made. He must follow the toss.

Post-Snap Blocking Play-side wing, TE, and tackle will execute a flanking maneuver on the defensive edge. They will “throw and pull” flat to the sideline and sprint to beat their assignment across the face. Play-side guard will pull to the 2nd level looking to pick off scraping LB’s. Center and backside guard pull flat and scoop next man to the play side. Backside tackle and TE work up to the 3rd level, touchdown block.
