SUPERYACHT UK: Cruising The South West

Isles of Scilly: Starting in the far west is an archipelago of over 100 islands lying 28 miles of the mainland. Only 5 of these islands are inhabited with St Marys being the largest. Due to a sub-tropical climate the islands are famed for spectacular scenery and beautiful wildlife above and below the water, including a large colony of puffins. Mounts Bay: This is the first anchorage on the mainland with the ports of Penzance and Newlyn to visit, the most striking feature is St Michaels Mount. The area boasts quaint fishing harbours and sheltered coves alongside the dramatic coastline of Lands End. CRUISING THE SOUTH WEST: Isles of Scilly & Lands End Scilly 28 Miles SW

Falmouth: The 3 rd largest natural harbour in the world offers all the services of a bustling port combined with secluded deep water anchorages, spectacular castles, gardens, beaches and rivers. With numerous inlets that enable navigation up the river towards Truro and the famous Smugglers Cottage. Helford River: One of the most idyllic inlets around the South Coast provides numerous visitor moorings with the opportunity to explore secluded beaches via river taxi or tender, and walks though quiet wooded valleys. CRUISING THE SOUTH WEST: Falmouth and The Helford

Fowey is a fantastic deep water port that offers a spectacular safe haven in all weathers, capable of handling small cruise ships the local town is always worth a visit with its winding streets and fantastic eateries. Designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty use your time here to take a tender up the river to enjoy the Fowey River inland to Lostwithiel. CRUISING THE SOUTH WEST: Fowey

One of the most important ports throughout history with its obvious and well documented Naval connections since the 13 th Century. The City offers both old and new aspects and all the amenities one would expect with a busy port. CRUISING THE SOUTH WEST: Plymouth

Another spectacular deep water anchorage accessible in all weathers and tides. The local town is one of the most hospitable you can visit with quaint medieval streets that house more than enough pubs and eateries as one would expect with Britannia Royal Naval college on top of the hill. CRUISING THE SOUTH WEST: Dartmouth

Torbay is is an east-facing bay and natural harbour and is often known as The English Riviera on account of its stunning beaches and mild climate. This area has gone through dramatic improvements recently with regards to what is available to visitors. The Jurassic Coast is now a UNESCO Geopark and the 400 million year history of the world is laid bare for all to see as dramatic cliffs and rock strata filled with fossils reflect the transition of time. CRUISING THE SOUTH WEST: Torbay to Lyme Regis TORBAY LYME REGIS

From Lyme Regis around the coast there are many spectacular bays and harbours, including the spectacular Lulworth Cove. Weymouth has a long maritime history and is home to cross-channel ferries, pleasure boats and private yachts. It will play host to all of the 2012 Olympic Sailing events. Further round the coast Poole is one of the premier safe havens on the English coast line with great beaches, a busy town and the renowned Poole Quay. At the mouth of Poole Harbour is the famous Sandbanks Peninsula which has per m 2, the fourth highest land value in the world. CRUISING THE SOUTH WEST: Dorset WEYMOUTH POOLE

Other attractions of note are: The Eden Project in St Austell, The Tate Modern in St Ives, Plymouth Aquarium, sub -tropical gardens on the Scillies and around Falmouth & Fowey, the National Maritime Museum Falmouth, the stunning scenery of Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bodmin Moor, and many historical houses and Castles. CRUISING THE SOUTH WEST: Visitor Experiences

The South West has become a fantastic place to eat out; led by Rick Steins success in Padstow and now Falmouth, there is a huge choice of top quality dining experiences with many having spectacular positions overlooking the coast, including fantastic waterside pubs. CRUISING THE SOUTH WEST: Visitor Experiences

Due to the regions strong ties to the sea annually there are numerous regattas and festivals throughout the Southwest including the annual World Gig Rowing Championships in the Scillies, the Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival, Falmouth Regatta Week, and Fowey Regatta to name a few. The Falmouth Regattas in 2012 will be covered in more detail later but during the year Falmouth is hosting a J-Class Regatta on the 26 th – 30 th June and The Pendennis Cup on the 2 nd - 7 th of July. CRUISING THE SOUTH WEST: Events

All the Ports mentioned have capability for mooring large yachts. It is recommended to contact the relevant Port Authority in advance as some of the smaller harbours require pilots and with the river inlets capacity is limited. In the South West you will find beautiful and exclusive deep water mooring sites, right on the edge of historic towns or in some cases tucked up remote rivers with nothing but you and the wildlife. CRUISING THE SOUTH WEST: Berthing

Pendennis Shipyard in Falmouth has been dedicated to refitting and building Superyachts for the last 22 years. The facilities on site include a 400 ton Travel Hoist and slipway for quick haul outs, a 150m fully covered and temperature controlled dry dock that can be divided in two 75m docks, a dedicated refit tent The White House supported by a skilled labour force of over 300 people that covers all trades from Fabricators to Interior and Exterior Finishers. CRUISING THE SOUTH WEST: Servicing Superyachts

CRUISING THE SOUTH WEST: Servicing Superyachts

Newquay, Exeter, Plymouth and Bristol airports provide regular flights to London, all of the UKs major cities as well as most of Europe. Pendennis has an on-site Heli pad.
