Don't Panic! Group Challenge

Don't Panic! Group Introduction

Aim and Objectives Aim Support students and teachers in understanding the challenges of the diploma and plan ahead in a fun, interactive way Student objectives Get to know each other Figure out difficulties and deal with them together Get to know what is required of them Develop commitment to personal action plans

Don't Panic! – challenge rules 1.Your aim is to complete the diploma course 2.Before starting, you carry out the ‘Think’ task. Your preparation here will determine your progress in the game 3.Groups roll the dice in turn to move through the game. 4.When landing on a ‘Think’ square, you will be presented with a possible problem. Your teacher compares what is on the card with what you have prepared. If you have it, progress one square. If not, move back one square or in some cases more. You are allowed to use an item on your prepared list only once.

5. When landing on a ‘Fix’ square, you will be presented with a problem. Make your choice of answer. Your teacher can discuss with the whole group – but the teacher makes the final judgement. If correct, progress one square. If not, move back one square or in some cases more. 6. The winner reaches the diploma certificate first or, alternatively, has advanced the most.

‘Think Task’ In your group, write down as many possible problems as you can think of with diploma study –They don’t have to be problems you will have, but problems that anybody may have –Write them on a flipchart using a flip chart pen – so afterwards they can be displayed for everyone to see –While doing the exercise, keep your results private and away from other groups

Don’t Panic! Class Action Plan Top concernsAction agreed as a classWhen to be reviewed

Don’t Panic! Group Task After playing the game, what seem to be your top three concerns? What can you do to help deal with these?
