The pie chart gives information about the five most popular sporting activities in the United States of America in 2008, while the bar graph shows the popularity of those sports in Los Angeles and New York in the same period. Overall, basketball was the most popular sport across the USA and in Los Angeles. However, in New York, the sport with the highest level of popularity was baseball. The pie chart shows that basketball was the favourite sport of 30% of Americans. The second most popular sport was football, at 25%. Baseball and tennis were the next most popular at 20% and 15% respectively. Finally, jogging was preferred by 10% of Americans.

Looking at the bar chart, we can see that the favourite sports in Los Angeles were roughly similar to the national average, except that basketball was slightly more popular, at 37%. In contrast, football and baseball were a little less popular. The former was preferred by 18% of people in Los Angeles and the latter by 16%. Unlike in Los Angeles and the USA as a whole, in New York, baseball was the sport preferred by highest number of people, at 36%. Jogging came second, at 17%, whereas basketball was the favourite for only 16% of New Yorkers, which was the same percentage for football.
