4 Windows Live Groups Windows Live Groups has all the online tools you need for your groups like school clubs, school organizations or project work groups. Everyone can communicate and collaborate together online using these features: Shared Group Calendar Group discussions Windows Live Messenger to chat with up to 20 people Windows Live Group Photos Windows Live Group SkyDrive with 5GB of allocated storage Simple Access Management (people can access the group with an invite or by request) For more information check out:

5 Windows Live Groups Log onto Open your browser and go to your school portal or enter Enter your Windows Live ID and password and click Sign in. Click the More drop-down arrow list. Click Groups.

7 Windows Live Groups Create a Group Click Create a Group. Enter a name into the Group name: field and click Check availability.

8 Windows Live Groups Create a Group (continued) If the name you have chosen is already taken you will need to choose another name. Windows Live Groups will make suggestions to help you. When the Web address is confirmed as available, choose the relevant Membership, the Theme, and whether you want to allow Group conversations using Windows Live Messenger. Note: once you turn off group conversation, you can’t turn it back on for the group. Click Create.

11 Windows Live Groups Invite people to join a group Click Invite people Click To and check the box next to individual contacts to invite them to join the group. If you want to invite a group of contacts click the Categories tab.

12 Windows Live Groups Invite people to join a group (continued) You can enter your own invitation message in the Include your own message field. Click Send.

13 Windows Live Groups Invite people to join a group (continued) The invitations will be sent and you will return to the group home page. People who have been invited to become a member of the group will receive an invite and can accept by clicking the Join button.

14 Windows Live Groups Invite people to join a group (continued) You will be able to see when a contact joins the group from the What’s new area of the group home page. The members will also appear in the membership area of the home page.

16 Windows Live Groups Send an instant message Open Messenger. The group you have just created will appear in your buddy list. You can send an instant message to all members of the group. Refer to the Windows Live Messenger Module for the steps.

18 Windows Live Groups Start a discussion Click on Discussions. Click Start new discussion.

19 Windows Live Groups Start a discussion (continued) Give your discussion a Title and enter your discussion in the text field below. Click Publish.

20 Windows Live Groups Start a discussion (continued) Your discussion will show on the group discussions page, together with the name of the group member that started that discussion. To get back to the group home page click the name of the group.

22 Windows Live Groups Share photos Click Photos. Click Add photos.

23 Windows Live Groups Share photos (continued) Click New album Enter a name for the album in the Name field. Click a permissions radio button depending on whether you only want members to be able to view photos, or if you want members to be able to add, edit details, and delete photos. Click Next.

24 Windows Live Groups Share photos (continued) Drag and drop your photo files into the Drop photos here field. You can also browse to find and select photos. Click Upload. You will see a confirmation that the photo has been uploaded and the album has been created.

26 Windows Live Groups Create a folder To return to the group home page click the name of your group. Click SkyDrive.

27 Windows Live Groups Create a folder (continued) Click Add files. Click New folder.

28 Windows Live Groups Create a folder (continued) Enter a name for the folder in the Name: field. Click the Members can view files radio button or click the Members can add, edit details, and delete files Click Next. The folder has now been created and is ready for members of the group to upload files to. As you do not want to upload files at this point, click Cancel to get back to the group home page.
