What is it? And When to use it? A comprehension strategy Guides students to ask questions about the reading, to create predictions, and to confirm their predictions (Use it during reading in small groups, individually, and in whole classroom settings)

Teacher Steps 1) Determine the text to use and preselect points for student to pause during the reading 2) Introduce the text, purpose of the DR-TA, and provide examples of how to make predictions – Direct – Open-ended questions to begin thinking – Reading – Students read to first pausing point – Thinking – Students think about their predictions after each section
