Kenneth Ball

 Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21 st, 1685, in Eisenach, Saxe-Eisenach  Sebastian was the youngest child of Johann Ambrosius Bach, the director of the towns musicians, and a member of a large family of German musicians.

 Bach played a wide variety of instruments, including harpischord, and organ, and surveyed many different musical styles and techniques.

 Sebastian wrote music for single instruments, duets, and small ensembles.  Bach’s best known orchestral works are the Brandenburg concertos

 Bach’s musical style came from his exposure to many different types of music, such as German and French music.  His access to family musicians and instruments developed him to become an extraordinary musician.

 Partitas  Prelude and Fugue [“St. Anne”] in E-flat Major  Mass in B Minor  Schübler Chorale Preludes  The Art of the Fugue was the last piece of music he was writing but was unfinished because of his illness

 On 28 July 1750 Bach died at the age of 65.  His cause of death was listed as consequences of a very unsuccessful eye operation.
