NLF & Ho Chi Minh By: Trish, Lilly, and Denise

National Liberation Front (NLF) Socialist political party in Algeria Formed in 1954 to give Algeria freedom from France. Caused revolts and opened civil wars in Algeria as it began guerrilla warfare*. *guerilla warfare: (n) the use of hit-and-run tactics by small, mobile groups of irregular forces operating in territory controlled by a hostile, regular force.

NLF continued… The National Liberation Front was indeed founded to support Muslim independence in Algeria. BUT, the plan became unsuccessful. Govt. of the Fourth French Republic said that Algeria belonged to France and refused to compromise.

Ho Chi Minh Turned a national movement against French colonial rule into the Indochina Communist Party. WWII established Ho Chi Minh as an anti- colonial, nationalist leader. Achieved his position in Vietnam w/o help from Soviet or Chinese communists.

Mr. Minh continued… He declared Vietnams independence in 1945, under the Viet Minh*. In 1947, Vietnam began a complete civil war. *Viet Minh: a group of nationalists that the communists dominated.
