YOU ARE HELPING MANY PEOPLE WHO OTHERWISE SLEEP ON THE GROUND. A Mat Goes To Haiti Many volunteers have helped to make sleeping mats from milk bags.

A Mat Goes To Haiti The mats are collected in the warehouse with medicine, medical supplies, and milk products.. They are loaded into a sea container. The truck takes them to CN Rail, which transports them to Halifax Harbour, where the entire 40’ box is loaded onto a ship.

This is the house of a family of blind people. It is a very nice house, having a metal roof and cement floor. The house has two rooms. Seven children, their parents, and an aunt live here. All but the aunt and one child are blind. The house is provided by donations from missionaries. This is the lady of the house, inviting us in.

This table and its contents are the only furniture in the ‘kitchen’. All cooking is done outside on a fire. All cooking is done outside on a fire. At night, the aunt and some of the children sleep here on the floor. At night, the aunt and some of the children sleep here on the floor.

This single bed is where the parents sleep. The suitcase is the family storage, along with what is under the bed. There is nothing else in the room.

We only brought one mat with us, knowing that with missionary support, this family was better off than many. We asked the little boy to demonstrate how the mat would be used. His little friends wanted to come in and touch the new sleeping mat. I apologize that there are not many photos of where these mats have been lovingly received. I get nervous about photographing people’s homes when they are so very self-conscious of their poverty. They want you to think the best of them, and worry that you will look down upon them for their poverty.
