TRINITY RIVER RESTORATION PROGRAM Juvenile Salmonid Outmigrant Monitoring Evaluation – Phase II TRRP – Outmigrant Monitoring Evaluation 10/6-8/2009 Population Monitoring Technology Transfer Workshop PHASE I (October 2007-August 2008) Objective: To review and evaluate outmigrant monitoring program data collection, datasets, and analytical procedures. Summarized >20 yr history of outmigrant monitoring efforts Assembled, determined extraction needs, and summarized available data Reviewed field procedures Provided broad review of population estimation techniques Primary Recommendations: Detailed evaluation of applicable population estimation techniques for the Trinity River outmigrant datasets Extract consistent dataset for all monitoring sites and years Generate outmigrant population estimates for evaluation and analyses across years Data collection refinements, including site-specific monitoring duration, mark-recapture expt’s, covariates, trap operations

TRINITY RIVER RESTORATION PROGRAM Juvenile Salmonid Outmigrant Monitoring Evaluation – Phase II PHASE II (October 2008 – present) Objective: To develop applicable analytic techniques for use with juvenile salmonid outmigrant data to evaluate TRRP performance, and transfer procedures to the TRRP and program partners for future use 1.Data extraction and synthesis 2.Estimation of metrics of interest (i.e., abundance, run-timing, condition) 3.Develop population estimation and simulation tools 4.Technology transfer workshop TRRP – Outmigrant Monitoring Evaluation 10/6-8/2009 Population Monitoring Technology Transfer Workshop
