Chapter 10 - Part 1 Our Group is here today, to talk about, The Book, that is “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children”. By: RJ, Ivan and Yaeji

Setting The setting in this part of the chapter is … Place: Mostly in the present but the beginning is at the house (escaping). Time: Night time / Atmosphere: Raining Heavily. Overall : With all of these in effect it gives a very eerie and suspenseful moment (Fear of the wight and hollow)

In this section of the chapter, we learn that Martin has been killed. Jacob and the peculiars go out to find the truth about his death. Plot:

Jacob starts his largest quest of all. Miss Peregrine doesn’t want him to leave the house. She wants him safe as well as the other peculiars.

However Jacob doesn’t listen. He makes a plan to escape the house. His father may be in danger and he wasn’t taking any chances.

Emma and the peculiars insist on coming with him. Especially Emma.

That same night, Jacob and his friends escape off the roof. They walked through the town looking so innocent. Eventually they reached the cave and found Martin’s body in the ice.

Character Development Jacob- He gains confidence and has courage. Emma- Stays outgoing. Enoch- Comes out as a brave and important role in figuring out Martin’s Fate. Bronwyn-Afraid of Wights/Hollows. Even Miss Peregrine. Miss Peregrine- Safety Overload. Many of the characters develop in this part of the chapter. We learn that the children care about Jacob quite a lot. Also that Enoch, Emma, Jacob and Bronwyn are putting their skills to overcome a quest. To figure out who, or killed Martin.

Reasoning for Development Bronwyn: We learn she has fear of Wights, Hollow and Miss P. (When she doesn’t want to leave) Jacob: Honourable… He goes back for his dad even if he cant go back to the house Miss Peregrine: Protective, she is almost making the house a prison for her children’s safety.

Relationships Status – Emma Bloom and Jacob Portman are now in a relationship. Millard and 5 others Likes this Through out the chapter Emma shows that she cares for Jacob. When Jacob wishes to go back to the 21 st century to go help his father. Emma gets other children to go with him and her so Miss Peregrine doesn’t banish him from rd September.

The theme in this section is Truth and Teamwork

The purpose in this part of the chapter is to find the truth about martin’s death.

In the chapter it says- “But they’d only just begun when a call came in over the short-band radio: Martin’s body had been fished out of the ocean.”

The other theme in this section of the chapter is Teamwork

Jacob and the peculiars work together to succeed their mission. He needs the peculiars abilities to help him throughout.

Without them, Jacob wouldn’t be able to succeed. That is why teamwork is so important in this chapter. Jacob can’t do everything by himself. He may have special ability, but he isn’t superman.

Literary Devices Smile- “Run like the devil’s after you” –page 283 Metaphor- “Rain drummed on every door and window” – page 283 Mood- The atmosphere is eerie and suspenseful

Key Quotations “Arranging the hollows’ meals is what wights spend most of their time doing” – Page 275 – Explains what wights do for hollows. “But you need me” – Page 277 – Jacob thinks that the peculiars and Miss Peregrine needs him. And they do need him because he can see the monsters.
