How do we know the academic potential students have? – Mr Mellows Remember key stage 2 SATs? English, Maths, Science. Students were given a level (e.g. 4,5) Actually they were given a sub level too (e.g. level 4c, 5b) Each sub level is worth points! level 4c =27, 5c =33

KS2 Average points score (APS) Add up the sub level points, divide by 3 gives an Average Points Score. APS are used to PREDICT key stage 4 outcomes (GCSE/BTEC outcomes)

Key stage 2 was a long time ago. We agree! Fischer Family Trust – FFT (national data) Compares our students to other schools nationally Our goal is to be in the top 25% nationally - FFT D targets

Progress KS2 SATs to GCSE/Vocational Qualifications KS2 APS = 27.2 GCSE & BTEC FFT Estimates = C/D + Knowledge of student Target Realistic Aspiration (At their BEST) Expected Outcome Exam Result (with ‘normal’ progress maintained to the end of the course) KS2 APS = 29.5 GCSE & a BTEC FFT Estimates = C + Knowledge of student Target Realistic Aspiration (At their BEST) Expected Outcome Exam Result (with ‘normal’ progress maintained to the end of the course) KS2 APS = 36.3 GCSE FFT Estimates = A + Knowledge of student Target Realistic Aspiration (At their BEST) Expected Outcome Exam Result (with ‘normal’ progress maintained to the end of the course) Assessment Assessment Assessment

How we might assess You have 45 seconds to describe the BEST FISH you can to the person sitting next to you…. GO!

Species; Fishus raricus Found in good quality fish & chip shops Did you describe this!

Time for some SELF ASSESSMENT 1 mark for the tail fin 1 mark for an eye, 2 marks for two eyes 2 marks for a dorsal fin 1 mark for a lateral (side) fin, 2 marks for two fins 1 mark for a pectoral fin (top), 2 marks for two 5 marks for any indication of scales 10 marks for any indication of movement 15 marks for any indication of environment (e.g. sand, water, rocks, coral) 20 marks for any annotations (labels) e.g. species, location 50 marks for the indication of the presence of gills. 109 total 14 or less Level 3 24 – 14Level 4 36 – 24Level 5 +36Level 6 Do you need any INTERVENTION for under performing?

We assess across all subjects Assessment tells us how a student is currently performing We can track progress against FFT D We can start interventions We can prepare students for LINEAR (end of year 11) exams (a few subjects still have year 10 external exams e.g. BTEC P.E. Science)

One exam entry only at KS4 Linear exams mean one chance to enter We track CORE subjects very closely Heads of Core meet every 2 weeks We update assessment data every month Last year 81% C+ grades in Maths 71% C+ in English
