Why do animals need energy? Warmth and movement

Why has there been an increase in the use of artificial fertilisers? More food is needed for an increasing population.

What does the harvesting of crops prevent from happening? Essential elements being returned to the soil

How are the essential elements taken in by the plant? Through the roots as compounds
