Do You Hear What I Hear? By Paul Provencio, Townsend Elementary T4

Do You Hear What I Hear? 4 - Reading The Westminster chimes play a tune that is probably the most widely played tune in the world. Clocks that play a part of it every 15 minutes chime the tune 35,040 times a year. A person who grows up with this clock would hear this tune more than a million times during their lifetime.

Do You Hear What I Hear? 4 - Questions What tune have you hear most in your lifetime? How was the number 35,040 calculated? 35,040 is the number of times a year the clock chimes. ANSWER

Do You Hear What I Hear? 4 - Questions 35,040 divided by 365 days = 96 times a day 96 divided by 24 hours in a day = 4 The melody is broken into four (4) segments. The first part plays on the hour. The second part plays at fifteen past the hour. The third part plays at half past the hour. The fourth part plays at fifteen ‘til the hour. That way a person can tell what time it is by listening to the clock’s tune!

Do You Hear What I Hear? Teacher’s Page General Tips for success: First let class read silently. Then read out loud as a class. Brain-storm to find out their schema and stimulate ideas. Lead the students to discover what sounds are in their lives and which ones are important. What causes us to react when we hear sounds? What makes sound humorous, poignant, or exciting?(The way the elements are organized to be expressive, experiences associated with sounds.)
