Eid Al-Adha By Zineb Messaoui

What is it? It is a celebration that Muslims (followers of Islam) have every year It is celebrated on the tenth day of the twelfth month of the lunar calendar: Dhul Hijja It lasts three days and has many ways to be celebrated and many obligations too

Some history…. The festival of Eid- ul- Adha is celebrated to remember prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) readiness to end his son, Ismaeel (AS)’s life, for god. The story talks about how Ibrahim (AS) was ready to kill his son and remained true to God. The story tells, how Allah told Ibrahim (AS), to sacrifice his son, in a dream. Abraham along with his son started moving towards Mina for the sacrifice. During their walk, some devils tried to direct Abraham away from his way but Abraham was true to god and as he was just set to kill his son and obey Allah’s command, Allah stopped him and gave him a sheep to sacrifice instead of sacrificing his son. This festival is thereby said to be a festival of sacrifice.

Obligations of Eid Al- Adha The main obligation is the sacrifice of the sheep: every family must sacrifice a sheep and distribute it in three parts: one for the family, one for the friends, neighbors and other relatives and one for the poor and needy.

What do we do on Eid al- Adha? Muslims all around the world tart of Eid with a special Eid prayer followed by a khutba Muslims usually wear their best clothes and make sure they smell and look their best They usually eat special festive foods and invite friends and family over for meals They also usually distribute presents between themselves

Thanks for Watching!! Have a Great Eid al Adha!
