8/7/09 – Do Now (on your desks) Have you ever been stopped by the police because of your appearance? If you have, what was your reaction? Why did you react this way? If you havent, what do you think your reaction would be? Why do you think you would react this way? What do you know about racial profiling? What do you think about it? If you dont know what it is, what does it sound like it might be? Write for five minutes.

8/7/09 - Do Now Respond to the following point and question in your journal: Yesterday we talked mostly about racial profiling being conducted by law enforcement. How do students, or everyday people, make or act on assumptions or beliefs based on someones ethnic or racial background? Provide personal examples if you have witnessed any.

Journal Do Now – 8/10/09 In a small town there is a man of Irish descent in his mid-twenties, around 62, with red hair and freckles. There has recently been a report of a man matching this description robbing a store in the area. This man, who did not rob the store, keeps getting picked up and questioned by the police because he matches the description, tall, young and Irish. Is this an example of racial profiling? Why or why not?
