8 Development Basic Infrastructure in Kandahar –Between March and June 2007, more than 100 reservoirs, 70 hand pumps, 1000 wells, 100 irrigation canals, and 650 km of roads have been constructed or rehabilitated. –Kandahar Local Initiatives Program for delivering small- scale, quick action projects Humanitarian Assistance –In Kandahar: more than 200,000 people have received emergency food aid

9 Development Governance –More than 17,500 Community Development Councils elected (more than 520 in Kandahar alone) –$10-million under the National Solidarity Program for local governance and community development in Kandahar Education –20,800 men and women receiving legal awareness training within households –More than 5100 Kandahari women receiving literacy training

10 Development Health –Access to basic medical services has increased to 83% –Infant mortality has declined 22% Economic Development –Between January and May 2007, 60,000 new clients in microfinance activities –In Kandahar, more than 420,000 m 2 of land cleared of mines, benefiting more than 10,000 people (since March 2005). –Between April and June 2007, over 5,000 mines destroyed nationwide
