Input device A piece of hardware used to enter data into the computer. Needed to enter data into the computer for processing. E.g. mouse, keyboard Input Data that is entered into the computer for processing Input devices can be either: 1. Manual or 2. Automatic

Categories These include: 1. Standard 2. Pointing devices 3. Gaming 4. Scanning devices 5. Audio & video 6. Other input devices

Standard Input Device o The keyboard is the most common and widely used input device. o It is also a standard input device. o Made up of buttons called 'keys‘ with four (4) main sections: 1. Alphanumeric keys 2. Function or F keys {F1, F2, F3, etc} 3. Numeric keypad {on the right} 4. Arrow or cursor movement keys

Standard Input Device Most keyboards are called 'QWERTY' keyboards. From the first 6 letters on the top row of the alphabet keys. Using a keyboard for too long can lead to health problems such as Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI). To overcome this, ergonomic keyboards were invented.
