FAST Tajweed Intensive Workshop Madd Al-Asli (The Natural or the Original Madd)

Madd Al-Asli The Natural or the Original Madd FAST Tajweed Intensive - Summer 2012

What is Madd-Al-Asli? Letters with Harakaat on them are prolonged if they are followed by their corresponding Haroof-ul-Madd. Such type of elongation is called “The Original Madd” or Madd Al-Asli. FAST Tajweed Intensive - Summer 2012

Three Types of Madd-Al-Asli Explaination الف مدّه Alif preceded by any letter with a Fat-hah on it. واو مدّه Waaoo Saakinah, preceded by any letter with a Dhammah on it. يا مدّه Yaa Saakinah preceded by any letter with a Kasrah under it FAST Tajweed Intensive - Summer 2012

Reading Madd Al-Asli A simple Harakah (Fat-hah, dhamma or kasrah) is not elongated at all – it is read for one “beat” or one “count” only. Madd-Al-Asli, on the other hand, is elongated two counts, i.e. twice that of a normal Harakah. The difference between the two is like the difference between saying “ba” and “baa” FAST Tajweed Intensive - Summer 2012

Examples of Madd e Asli بَ بَا بُ بُوْ فِ فِىْ Simple Harakah Pronounced Adding Madd e Asli Type of Madd بَ Ba (like the sound of u in butter) بَا Baa (like the sound in cart) Alif Madd بُ Bu (like the sound in put) بُوْ Boo (like the sound in boot) Wow Madd فِ Fi (like the sound in fin) فِىْ Fee (like the sound in deep) Yaa Madd FAST Tajweed Intensive - Summer 2012

Al-Leen Leen literally means softness Madd-Al-Leen occurs when certain letters are pronounced softly and with ease. Leen letters are: wow sakin وْ ya sakin ىْ But only if there is a Fat-hah on the letter preceding them FAST Tajweed Intensive - Summer 2012

Two types of Madd Al-Leen واو لين Waao Saakinah, preceded by any letter with a Fat-hah on it. ياۓ لین Yaa Saakinah preceded by any letter with a Fat-hah on it FAST Tajweed Intensive - Summer 2012

Al-Madd Al-Leen Examples Examples of Madd Al-Leen بِالْغَيْبِ ياۓ لین عَلَيْهِمْ طَيْرًا خَوْفٍ واو لين فَوْقِهِمْ التَّوْرَاةَ FAST Tajweed Intensive - Summer 2012

Practice Madd Al-Leen See the Surah Al-Quraish (Surah number106) given below. Identify the points of Madd Al-Leen. لِإِيلَافِ قُرَيْشٍ إِيلَافِهِمْ رِحْلَةَ الشِّتَاءِ وَالصَّيْفِ فَلْيَعْبُدُوا رَبَّ هَٰذَا الْبَيْتِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعٍ وَآمَنَهُم مِّنْ خَوْفٍ FAST Tajweed Intensive - Summer 2012
