Southwest Asia Map Rubric A blank sheet of 81/2 x 11 inch paper and a unlabeled base map are given to the student to draw a map of Southwest Asia. A reading assignment is done to prepare to do the work. From that reading, there are underlined words that represent physical features to place on the map. Students use map sources to label their own maps with a pencil. Sources could be textbook maps (such as pages A13, A15, A 20, A27, 81, 87) and the internet. Name, period, date started (upper right-hand corner of map) E. Rivers Write the names along the lines. I. Cities Mark the location with a dot and name. (1pt) Tigris (1 pt) Constantinople A. Map Outline (3 pts) Draw Southwest Asia (1 pt) Euphrates (1 pt) Damascus (1 pt) Baghdad Place the dot along the Tigris River. B. An Open Corner of the Map F. Deserts (Draw a symbol for desert. A suggestion is “dots for sand.” Write the names next to the symbols. Use the Tropic of Cancer line as a reference to correctly place the symbols.
