Franksbridge Primary School Curriculum for Wales 2022

The research behind our new curriculum:

Key recommendations

Overview of recommendations Key recommendation is for greater scope for all schools to plan and provide a creative, engaging and challenging curriculum – giving the teaching profession more influence over what is taught in schools, within a clear national framework of expectation and support (the principle of subsidiarity)

Curriculum 2022 Timeline

Pioneer Schools across Wales have been trying to put the research into practice

The new Professional Standards for teachers are designed to complement Curriculum 2022

Starting with the endpoint – what we are seeking to achieve in the Welsh education system:

4 Core Purposes Audit- Where are we already providing engaging cross-curricular learning opportunities? Where are our gaps? How can we fill them? Our School audit can be found above the photocopier with our School Development Plan

6 Areas of Learning and Experience (AoLEs)

3 Cross-curriculum responsibilities

What Matters? Each AoLE will includes a set of defined ‘What matters statements’. These vary in number They capture the key aspects of learning for each AoLE They are designed to operate together as part of a holistic curriculum

What Matters in The Expressive Arts?

What Matters in Science and Technology?

Each What Matters Statement is broken down into Progression Steps Expected Age 1 5 years 2 8 years 3 11 years 4 14 years 5 16 years

At each progression step there is a set of achievement outcomes AoLE: Expressive Arts What Matters Statement: Progression Step 2 (Leaving Class 1)

Progression Step 3 (Leaving Primary School)
