Roundabouts More and more across the nation roundabouts are being planned and constructed at record rates and that is due to many factors like safety, reduced delay and congestion, their ability to accommodate all roadway users, environmental benefits, life cycle costs benefits, but most importantly their ability to fit many different situations and intersection types. Roundabout work well at most intersections and therefore, come in may shapes and sizes from minis to urban compacts to multilane and turbo. These four gentlemen will each touch on different aspects of roundabouts and share their experience and expertise on various different topics.

Speaker Kenneth Isenhower | GHD “Holman Hwy 68 Roundabout: Key to Unlocking Congestion for the Monterey Peninsula” Kenneth Isenhower is a technical lead and transportation engineer with GHD. He graduated from CSU Sacramento with a BS in Civil Engineering. He has been GHD for 5 years and has successfully delivered various projects and technical reports ranging from Intersection Control Evaluations to Traffic Impact Analysis Report, Traffic Operations Analysis Reports and freeway mainline operations.

Speaker Rei-Lin Chen | City of San Leandro “First Modern Roundabout Plan in San Leandro” Mr Chen has 30 years experience in managing a broad range of traffic and transportation engineering and planning projects at 4 munical governments in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has a masters in Civil/Transportation engineering for the University of Kansas and received his BS in engineering from National Taipei Institute of Technology. He is a PE, TE, PTOE and is currently the De Facto City traffic engineer at the City of San Leandro

Speaker Mark Johnson | MTJ Engineering “Confused about Signing and Markings at Roundabouts? Key Components to Successful Implementation” Mr. Johnson is the principal engineer for MTJ roundabout engineering. Mark founded MTJ in 2005 after 12 years in public and private sector transportation engineering, including 4 years with the City of Loveland, Colorado and 4 at Wisconsin DOT where he was the key developer off their respective roundabout programs. Mark works a the roundabout expert on project teams across the US and Canada for roundabout feasibility analysis, design, review and public outreach and has a track record of delivering successful well received roundabouts. Mark was the co-author of the 2010 FHWA Roundabout Guide and is an active member of the ITE and TRB Roundabout Committees. Mark has also published papers on roundabouts design and analysis and has provided training on roundabout design and operation analysis to local and stage agencies, most recently to Caltrans.

Speaker Bill Baranowski | Roundabouts USA “Turbo Roundabout Design Guidelines” Mr Baranowski has been working on roundabouts since 1994 as the president of roundabouts USA and also as the City traffic engineer for Utah for the last 15 years.
