The Olympic and Paralympic Values It takes more than being a brilliant sports man or woman to become an Olympian or Paralympian. Top class athletes try to live according to a set of beliefs and ideas that help them to be the best they can be, and to respect other competitors. How can we support others during Sports Day? Lets use these values and Jesus’ teaching of ‘treating others how we wish to be treated’ on Sports Day when we are supporting others not only in our houses but throughout school. Why is it important to support others when they are performing? Here are two pictures of support during the Olympics.

Task… In groups you should choose a Paralympic/Olympic value which you believe to be the most important. You will be given A3 sheets of paper for you to put the value in the middle and write around the outside. You should comment on how you are going to use this particular value during Sports Day. Be as creative as possible so that they can be used as banners during Sports Day to encourage and support students within your houses.

National School Sports Week 20th – 24th June 2016 During National School Sports Week try to collect as many value slips as you can during your lessons. If staff feel you have demonstrated any of the Paralympic/Olympic values in your lessons you will be given a value slip.
