Welcome to Yates Primary School

The following information will help with beginning of the year procedures and answer common questions. If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to contact the main office.

Visiting Yates Visitors may park in spaces #1-15. We do not allow balloons, flowers, or outside food. Check with your teacher about classroom policies regarding birthday celebrations. If you want to eat breakfast or lunch with your student, you must be listed in PowerSchool as a contact. You will also be required to show your ID. No outside food is permitted.

Attendance Policy This information can also be found in our handbook and on the Yates website. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Building Entry Doors open at 7:40 am. All parents enter on the Mouse Creek side of the building. Come to the office window for assistance. Be prepared to show ID if you would like further access into the building. Parents are not allowed to walk students back to class.

Morning Student Drop-Off Doors open at 7:40 am. Students are tardy beginning at 8:30 am. Students can arrive to school one of three ways: Bus rider Car rider Parent walks student in to the building Breakfast is served until 8:30 am. Any student who asks for breakfast will be fed regardless of what time they arrive. It is recommended that your student be here by 8:15 if they are eating breakfast. Any student still eating after 8:30 am will be considered tardy to school.

Car Rider Drop Off YATES Drop-Off Enter the drive by Administrative Office Building. BOTH lanes will stack for Yates. As both lanes of vehicles turn right toward Yates, merge together to the right lane at the 1st barricade point. Enter one of the positions for drop off. Merge to the left lane past the second barricade to continue toward the Yates exit onto Mouse Creek. Parents, the right lane past the drop off / pick up points will be posted as NO PARKING. This lane will be for SERVICE VEHICLES ONLY. Unauthorized vehicles will be towed. Students at Both Ross and Yates Option #1: Enter the Ross traffic lane and drop off Ross student first. Exit and turn left onto Mouse Creek, then turn left back into the Yates traffic lanes. Option #2: Enter Yates traffic lane and drop off Yates student, then turn left into the circle just past the Yates playground to merge into Ross traffic flow. Parents be aware of speed bumps in the child crossing, pick up, and drop off zones. These speed bumps will keep the constant traffic flow for both schools at a very slow speed to ensure the safety of your children.

Bus Rider Procedures Students must follow all Cleveland City Schools bus rider safety procedures. No students will be allowed to ride home with another student unless approved by administration. You must contact the school in person or by phone to make request. No written notes will be accepted. Students will not be allowed to ride another bus. They must ride their assigned bus to and from school and must get off at their assigned bus stop. Buses and bus stops are assigned according to the home address listed in PowerSchool.

Parents Walking Students In Doors open at 7:40 am. Parents must walk students all the way in to the building and check students in with office staff. Do not leave students outside the building unattended or drop students off in the parking lot to walk in by themselves.

Changes to Afternoon Transportation If there is a change in your student’s transportation home, you must call the office by 2:30 pm. You must speak to office staff to verify and ensure the change in transportation. No changes in student transportation will be made by phone after 2:30 pm.

Car Rider Pick Up YATES Pick-Up Cars can begin stacking at 3:00 pm. School-issued car tag must be in window. If you do not have a car tag, you must park and come in to check out students. You must have your ID and you must be listed as a contact in PowerSchool. Enter the drive by Administrative Office Building. BOTH lanes will stack for Yates. After-School Program The YMCA offers an after-school program here at Yates. The program runs from 3:30-6:30 pm. Please contact the YMCA or the Yates main office for registration details.

Check Out Procedures Anyone checking out a student must be listed in PowerSchool or on the emergency contact card. Everyone checking out a student will be asked for their ID. No ID = No check out

Sick Student Procedures Students must be fever/vomit/rash free for 24 hours before they can return to school. If a student becomes sick at school (fever, vomiting, etc.), they will be sent home. They may not return until they are symptom-free for 24 hours.

Medication Procedures All medication must be brought by an adult to the nurse. Do not send medicine with student. Parent must complete a non-prescription or prescription medication form. Parents must complete a health care plan form if needed.

Changes to PowerSchool It is critical that we have the correct contact information at all times to ensure the safety and well-being of your student. If you have a change of phone number, address, contact persons or phone numbers, or emergency contacts, please contact the main office ASAP.
