The Bill of Rights 1st- RAPPS (Freedom of Religion, Assembly, Petition/Protest, Press, Speech) 2nd- own and carry a weapon 3rd- no quartering of soldiers (you can’t be forced to provide housing for soliders) 4th- PRE-ARREST rights: no search or seizure of your property without probable cause or warrant; protection of privacy from the government 5th- ARREST rights: grand jury, no double jeopardy (you can’t be tried twice for the same crime), can’t be forced to testify against yourself (“plead the fifth”- can’t be forced to answer questions that cause you to admit a crime), due process (fair treatment by the government); property taken by the government must be paid for 6th- TRIAL rights: right to a lawyer, speedy, public trial, right to a jury, trial in the same state as the crime, right to have witnesses and cross-examine their witnesses 7th- CIVIL TRIAL: right to a jury (if more than $20) if you are suing someone 8th- PUNISHMENT rights: no excessive bail or fines, no cruel and unusual punishment 9th- there are other rights of citizens besides those listed here 10th- all of the powers that the Constitution doesn’t list for the federal government or forbid for the states, belong to the states and citizens
