5 4th Amendment Protection from unreasonable search and seizure

6 5th Amendment Right to due process – Grand Jury indictment
Protection from “double jeopardy” – persons can not be charged with the same crime twice Protection from self incrimination – “You have the right to remain silent”; plead the 5th Eminent Domain – compensation is required if the government takes property

7 6th Amendment Trial by Jury Right to a speedy, public trial
Right to a lawyer

8 7th Amendment Right to a Jury Trial in civil cases greater than $20

9 8th Amendment Protection fro Cruel and Unusual punishment
Protection from excessive bail

10 9th Amendment Protection of rights not specifically listed in the Bill of Rights – just because it is not listed does not mean it can’t be a right

11 10th Amendment Reserved powers – those powers not delegated to the federal government in the Constitution are reserved for the states
