Record three things you observe about this region in your notebook Questions What is characteristic of the physical geography of East and Southeast Asia? Record three things you observe about this region in your notebook There are two distinct portions of this region one being the mainland and the other being the insular region.

This map shows the division between the mainland and the insular regions.

What is an archipelago? Based on the picture, what can you infer an archipelago is?

Definition for archipelago An archipelago is a group of islands closely scattered in a body of water. The islands were formed by volcanoes erupting from the ocean floor. If they were formed by volcanoes what can you conclude about this region?

The location of the Ring of Fire in this region Student will lightly sketch the ring of fire using a red map pencil.

What other natural disasters could impact this area due to the location of The Ring of Fire? Tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanoes

As you watch this video record 5 facts about tsunamis. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oPb_9gOdn4 As you watch this video record 5 facts about tsunamis.

Looking at the map what economic activities do you think might be located in this region? Why would navigable rivers and ports be important to economic development in this region? Because much of the area is along coastlines it is important that they have well placed and easy to navigate ports to boost their trade activities. Because China is so immense and spread out it would be important for them to have inland rivers that would allow them to transport goods to the coastlines.

Culture Some cultural diffusion might bring common religions and customs, while deserts and mountains might cause other peoples to develop in isolation so they will have different languages, clothing and customs. How do you think the spatial organization of this region might impact the culture?
