Spelling How best to support your child with their spellings: Look, cover, write and check (horizontal or vertical) Put the words into context Write them in sentences showing understanding RZ

Handwriting In school we teach a cursive script Key points to remember: Each letter starts on the line Capital letters stand alone Keep the writing consistent RZ

Grammar In school we teach a Grammar daily using the correct terminology: embedded clauses, connectives, adverb Children are tested at the end of KS2 It follows the pattern Review  Teach Practice Apply We encourage children to speak in full sentences which will then help when writing. Think it Say it Write it Read it Check it RZ

Grammar Why? Identified the need as children lacked these skills. Formal assessments at the end of KS2. When? Daily in classes for 30 mins What? Specific skills that the children need How is it going? Evidence in other writing across the curriculum CS

Reading Ideas on how to do this: We recommend that children read to an adult at least 3 times a week. (Rewards still under review due to no Reading Raffle.) Ideas on how to do this: Take it in turns to read to each other Let the children see you reading the paper, a magazine, book etc. If they see you do it they are more likely to do it themselves! Let the children read whatever they choose, after all they all need to read for pleasure also Question the children as they read Make predictions, draw pictures from descriptions, ask about the author’s intent Discuss the choice of vocabulary CS
