Why study a BA in Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at Strathclyde? Studying at one of the most research intensive universities in Scotland and the UK. Our academic staff are writing the key books and publishing research in leading academic journals. The course is very flexible (linked to Business School), has great retention rates and is focused on useful learning and employability. The culture at the University of Strathclyde is one that values engagement between staff and students. Staff care and the teaching and learning experience is reciprocal. Academic and pastoral support services is critical to the success of our students – library, study skills, careers, Myplace. We have vibrant Student Association/Mature Student Association.

Degree Structure Year 1: study three subjects Year 2: narrow down to two subjects Years 3 and 4: single subject (single honours) or two subjects (joint or major/minor honours) All students have the opportunity to spend Year 3 abroad in Europe, North and Central America, Canada, Australia & New Zealand.

BA entry requirements: all BA (H&SS) degrees AAAA-AABB (1st sitting) AAAAB-AABBB (Second Sitting) – unlikely to receive an offer unless at least AAA (or equivalent) after first sitting. For mature students at Scottish Higher need AAB in preferred/required subjects. HNC in Social Sciences with A in the graded units. SWAP to Humanities with AAA grade profile. Pre-entry Course pass with 60% overall. Second year entry possible for HND in Social Science for applicants with AAA-AAB in the graded units including credits in the relevant subjects (only Psychology, History and PIR).

BA Humanities & Social Sciences Applicants need only make ONE application. If you are accepted into one degree course there is the flexibility to do wider range of subjects. Do NOT apply to do more than once choice in the Faculty (the LLB/PPE are separate Degrees) as all BA choices have identical entry requirements, your application will be dealt with by the same admissions/selection team and both would get the same decision. Acceptance for one means acceptance for both.

Selection/Admissions Admission to full-time study is via the UCAS. Operating a Gathered Field admissions process. Entry competitive (almost 5,000 applications for circa 500 places). References and Personal Statements are always taken into consideration and are an important part of the application. Committed to Widening Access Care Leavers.

UCAS reference Looking for information on applicant’s overall academic ability. Motivation and attitude towards study (e.g. via attendance, participation in class discussions, engagement, etc.).
