Monster Attack You are sitting on a rock in the desert of Arizona at noon eating your lunch. You heard something behind you so you turned and saw a gila monster coming out of its burrow. You got up and ran for your life!

Home Sweet Home Gila monsters have adapted to the Gila River. They are native to the United States. Gila monsters also live on mountains, and valleys in Arizona, Utah, and California. When Gila monsters are active they spend 2 to 3 hours out of their burrow

Dig In Gila monsters gain nutrients in their tail as fat. Gila monster eat bird eggs and catch small animals.

Watch Out! They have strong bites that cause pain, bleeding, and weakness. Untreated bites are very painful and can kill a person. In a fight they shove, push, and even bite. A fight can last about 10 minutes or it can be hours.

Falling In Love In the spring males look for female mates. The female only lays 3 or 2 eggs. The eggs are soft and white. The eggs are also 2 ½ inches long and 1 ¼ inches wide. When eggs hatch the baby can hunt and protect themselves. New born Gila monsters are 6 ½ inches long. They also have venom right away. If a male meets a male they show of by doing push ups.

Quiz Time 1.Is a Gila monster venomous right away? 2.How long does a fight last? 3.What do Gila monsters eat? 4.How big is a baby Gila monster?
