The Center nurtures and inspires individuals engaged in the practice and the scholarship of education. By helping these practitioner- scholars achieve their full potential, the Center helps maximize Rose-Hulmans impact on the education of science, engineering, and mathematics students.

Within the last five years, nearly 90% of the faculty hired have been Assistant Professors. Assistant Professors 87% Full Professors 1% Associate Professors 12%

Nearly 70% of the Assistant Professors hired in the past five years have had no prior teaching experience.

20% of the tenure track faculty hired within the past five years have already left Rose-Hulman. None of these faculty had any known teaching experience prior to Rose-Hulman.

The CPSE: encourages and supports faculty working to improve student learning and enhance instructional effectiveness, assists faculty engaged in educational scholarship and assessment, facilitates the sharing of ideas and practices within the Institute and the larger educational community, serves as a campus repository for information related to teaching and learning.

Think of the worst professor you ever had. What made them the worst? Think of the best professor you ever had. What made them the best? Are there common fundamental differences between the best and worst professors?

Student cognitive development Writing learning objectives Lecture skills and teaching media Active learning Giving feedback to students, getting feedback from students Developing and growing as a teacher and learner Understanding Rose students Surviving the first year at Rose

Hearing the perspectives and tips of so many committed (and excellent) teachers was a great way to start the year and, for me, a great way to start my time at Rose. Although it is the start of my 3rd year here and my 8th year teaching overall, this workshop really motivates me for the upcoming year and I always learn something new and find ideas to try in class.
