What was the Treaty of Tordesillas? -A Treaty between Spain and Portugal to prevent a war over land. -Spain received the New World, excluding Brazil. -In addition to Brazil, Portugal received Asia. 2. Who were some important explorers from this time period? Christopher Columbus, Bartolemeu Dias , and Vasco da Gama 3. What kind of government was Spain and Portugal? Monarchy – controlled by a strong central government with a king or queen

Spain’s Empire Controlled by a strong central government. Wanted to make gold and silver Enslaved Native Americans and Africans to mine for gold and silver Sent Christopher Columbus to seek out a quick trade route to Asia. Bartolemeau Diaz sailed to southern most tip of Africa. Vasco da Gama sailed around tip and discovered a sea route to Asia.
