Title I Academic Intervention Services AIS Parent Meeting September 14th, 2016

History of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) 2012 – 2013 NYS Testing becomes aligned to the Common Core Curriculum Designed to hold states and schools more accountable for student progress through ELA and Math Assessments in grades 3-8 Reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 Signed into law January 8, 2002

Effects of NCLB Beginning with 2005 – 2006 school year all students in grades 3 – 8 were tested in ELA and Math. Students earned a 1, 2, 3 or 4 on each assessment AIS mandated for any student who failed to meet specific thresholds

Definitions of Performance Levels for the 2015 Grades 3-8 English Language Arts and Math Tests Level 4: Students performing at this level excel in standards for their grade. They demonstrate knowledge, skills, and practices embodied by the NYS P-12 Common Core Learning Standards for Mathematics or ELA that are considered more than sufficient for the expectations at this grade. Level 3: Students performing at this level are proficient in standards for their grade. They demonstrate knowledge, skills, and practices embodied by the NYS P-12 Common Core Learning Standards for Mathematics or ELA that are considered sufficient for the expectations at this grade.

Definitions of Performance Levels for the 2015 Grades 3-8 English Language Arts & Math Tests Level 2: Students performing at this level are below proficient in standards for their grade. They demonstrate knowledge, skills, and practices embodied by the NYS P-12 Common Core Learning Standards for Mathematics or ELA that are considered partial but insufficient for the expectations at this grade. Level 1: Students performing at this level are well below proficient in standards for their grade. They demonstrate knowledge, skills, and practices embodied by the NYS P-12 Common Core Learning Standards for Mathematics or ELA that are considered insufficient for the expectations at this grade.

Where are we now? Spring 2016: All students in grades 3 – 8 took NYS Math and ELA assessments State mandates that for the 2016-2017 school year all students who did not achieve a specific threshold must receive AIS AIS is determined by state test scores, teacher recommendation, and / or student performance.
