What do you need to know? Work Experience is from the 3rd – 14th December Every Year 10 will be going on work experience You are expected to find your own placement When you do you need to fill in an Own Find Form and get the employer to fill one in too

How do I find a placement? It is difficult! Ask your family and friends if they have a good placement Think about local businesses that you would like to do it in Search on the internet for places that you think would be interesting Remember you may have to ask 20-30 places before you even get a reply!

How do I ask places for a placement? Use a personal contact Go there and ask (politely!) Email them – preferably email a named person Call them Remember – they get almost no benefit from offering you work experience so you need to ask politely and persuade them!

Make sure you… Dress smartly when you meet them Use formal and correct language when emailing and talking to them Show that you are interested in this area and want to work there Keep asking!

Do not! Use an inappropriate email address – use your school one Talk or write in casual language Just tell them you think it is a good place as it will be easy Ask if you will get paid!

What do I do when I have a placement? Your placement is not confirmed until Lewisham Work Experience have carried out a Health and Safety check You must fill in (and get your employer to fill in) an Own Find form You can get these from Student Services or your tutor They should be returned to Student Services as soon as possible and by 7th September at the latest

What if I need help? Talk to your family and friends for ideas Ask your tutor or Head of House for help Ask in Student Services See Mr German for suggestions

REMEMBER! Everyone will go on work experience That means 240 Forest Hill Students asking for placements Trinity go at the same time If you don’t get organised you will not get a good placement!
