Tactics: Chapter 10 Overview Part TWO: Finding The Flaws Tactics: Chapter 10 Overview Chapter 10: Taking the Roof Off Following a worldview to its logical conclusion and determining if it is reasonable (reductio ad absurdum).

Tactics: chapter 10 - Taking the roof off Part TWO: Finding The Flaws Tactics: chapter 10 - Taking the roof off a.k.a. Reductio ad Absurdum (reduced to the absurd) The goal is to show that a argument is unworkable if taken to its logical conclusion. This removes the other person’s false sense of security. This tactic should never be used to defeat an argument and then make the other person look foolish. This would damage the relationship you are working to build.

A relativist want to believe that they have no obligation to others. When we apply their relative point of view against them they will not be pleased with the results.

If it is consistent then it is a reasonable argument. 3rd: If it is inconsistent or absurd, explore the results.

I cannot judge your actions.” Absolutist: “So if I assault you, you won’t press charges?” Relativist: “That would be illegal.” Absolutist: “How can you allow others to judge me?”

By her logic since Jesus would forgive the murderer then the governor should forgive him as well. Take the Roof Off: Jesus forgives all sinners. Therefore we should forgive everyone who commits a crime. Result: No one is ever punished for any crime.
