Sustainable Network Model: ADAPTIVE NETWORKS Title – Purpose: This is the 3rd webinar in the CRLConsulting TA cycle for 2017 Rural Network Development Planning Grant. This presentation provides a frame for understanding how to position a rural health network for enduring viability and success. We Believe… The most effective way to promote SUSTAINABLE NETWORKS during the planning phase is to support: - The development of your ADAPTIVE CAPACITY - Your selection of HIGH-LEVERAGE SHORT-TERM STRATEGIES that will demonstrate value Being adaptive is a core strategy for sustainable networks. This is an important point to emphasize with partners. A clear shared vision and trust-building collaboration provide the basis for being adaptive in a constantly changing environment.

Adaptive Capacity (The Ability to…) Navigate and remain relevant in ambiguous, unpredictable, changing circumstances Learn as you go Anticipate trends in versus reading about them in the news and reacting Avoid “last-gasp” maneuvers in times of crisis Share these ideas with partners and have them reflect on the prudence of these as drivers for sustained impact as a network.

Sustainable Network Model ©2016 Anderson Smith Consulting, LLC Scanning Leveraging Introduction of Sustainable Network Model Sustainable networks practice, as strategy, continuous internal and external scanning for trends, opportunities and threats and apply sense-making to understand together how to plan or adjust their shared work to have the best chance of creating value through ongoing leveraging of resources, knowledge, power and opportunity. In this way, they consistently put themselves into better position to sustain and add value for their members and the community they serve. Have the partners unpack these concepts and describe what they mean to them and how they might be applied to the network. Adding Value Sensemaking

Have partners reflect and discuss what these attributes mean to them and how the network currently exhibits them or not and how they might commit to developing these as recognizable aspects of the network going forward.
