An Introduction to the Advanced Placement Program® Tift County High School

Advanced Placement ®: The Basics AP® courses are college-level courses offered in high school Courses reflect what is taught in top introductory college courses AP courses are rigorous courses that move at an advanced pace Taking an AP course helps students enhance critical thinking skills, academic confidence, and time management and study skills needed for college success Students take AP Exams at the end of the course, measuring their mastery of college-level work ( score of 3 or higher on an AP Exam can typically earn students college credit and/or placement into advanced courses in college) AP classes reflect the rigor, pace, and expectations of a college course in the protected environment of a high school classroom. These courses reflect introductory classes, i.e. AP English Literature (the haven for book nerds) is taught at the equivalent of a 2000 Level Survey of British Literature course. The class concludes with an exam to determine mastery.

Our AP® Courses English: English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition History and Social Sciences: Human Geography, Microeconomics, United States History, World History Mathematics and Computer Science: Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Statistics Sciences: Environmental Science, Physics 1: Algebra-based, and Biology World languages: Spanish Language and Culture These are the courses that will be offered on our campus next year.

AP® Exam Fees All TCHS students enrolled in AP courses are offered the opportunity to take the AP exam at no cost. Students committing to take the exam but do not take the exam will be required to reimburse the school for the cost of the exam. The current exam fee is $94 per exam.
