Member Experience Workshop

Explaining Member Experience & Formation Workshop Outline Explaining Member Experience & Formation Council Experience & Retention Positive Member Experience takes care of Retention Best Practices in Member Retention Formation

Supreme Knight’s Charge to Lead Protect our Church & Protect our Family As State and District Deputies, lead growth in… Membership Charitable Outreach Volunteer Hours Insurance – Providing for the financial protection of our families

YEAR IN REVIEW & TABLE DISCUSSION Identify… Three jurisdiction/council victories Three common challenges councils face Top three areas of needed support from Supreme Top three goals for members this next Fraternal Year Top three goals for councils this next Fraternal Year

Module 1: Star Council as our Roadmap McGivney Award 7% net growth Founders Award 2.5% net growth Columbian Award 16 programs 4 required Reporting Fraternal Survey (1728) & Form 365 Good Standing Active & Compliant All requirement details available at www.kofc.org/star NOTE: All membership and insurance transactions must be received, processed, recorded and released at the Supreme Council office by June 30.

Module 1: Star Council as our Roadmap In order to better serve our (members) and (parishes) and fulfill our mission as Knights, we need to have a (well-rounded) approach to the fraternal year set by the (5 key areas) of Star Council and their respective goals. The fruits of a council structuring their calendar and goals off of these five areas will be an increase in Member Retention & Council Retention Historically, councils that stopped Reporting and fell out of Good Standing, first stopped succeeding in (membership growth), (council activity), and (promoting our of fraternal benefits). ACTIVITY: Identify the areas of Star Council that proved to be the most challenging for you as a GK and, on average, for your jurisdiction. Share at your table

Module 2 – Council Retention Successful council retention requires:   Promoting best practices Identifying and supporting struggling councils Consistent accountability ACTIVITY: Best Practices Discussion What does your jurisdiction do well at the state and district level to support and engage struggling councils? What works? What doesn’t work? What coaching do District Deputies need?

Module 2 – Council Retention Best Practices: Proactive approach – recognize and address red flags Promote Star Council as roadmap for council activity Accurate quarterly reporting with action items   Identifying potential issues: New Council in their first few years Stop reporting – Columbian and Fraternal Survey Recruitment is down or at a standstill On the 2nd year without recruiting 5. 6. 7.

Module 2 – Council Retention Providing consistent accountability: State Deputy: Promote Star Council as roadmap for success Request quarterly reporting from Council Retention Chairmen and DDs State Council Retention Chairman: Promote Star Council as roadmap to DD’s Collect and collaborate on DD retention report in advance of SD Report District Deputy: Promote Star Council as roadmap to GK’s Set monthly touch point with GK on reporting In meeting – identify issues and coaching points

Module 2 – Council Retention ** Questions for your DDs ** Which of your councils do you project to make Star Council this year? Which of your councils will not make Star Council? In what area will they struggle? Who is at risk for suspension? What is your action plan to assist them in this area of concern? What do we need to do to your suspended councils active again?

Module 3: Member Retention Learning objective: Develop plan for membership retention utilizing the McGivney award as a roadmap for success.   ACTIVITY: Table Conversation - Why did you become a Knight? Who brought you into the Knights? What compelled you to stay active? What was your first memorable experience as a Knight?

Module 3: Member Retention Successful Membership Retention Requires: Promoting Best Practices, State Council Support and Consistent Accountability in these four areas:   Recruitment Onboarding – “orientation” Member Retention Formation

Member Retention (Continued) Onboarding: Best Practices Shining Armor: Guide to new member activity Be involved in at least three council service programs Attend at least three council meetings Receive their Second and Third degrees Meet with their council’s insurance representative Recruit at least one new member

Member Retention (Continued) State Council Support and Accountability for Member Onboarding: State Deputy: Welcome new members – however you choose to do it   District Deputies: Promote the Shining Armor Award Encourage GKs to engage new Knights Provide monthly updates for Membership Retention Chairman

Member Retention (Continued) ** Questions for your DDs ** What are your councils currently doing to welcome new members? Are they utilizing the Shining Armor Award? How are you coaching the Grand Knights? Have you discussed and documented best practices? And shared them?

Proactive approach through: Communication: Asking the member what they are looking for Sharing what the council expects out of them – Shining Armor Award  Engagement: Do we know our members? Shared worship – Mass, Prayer, Retreats Meetings – vision for why Events/Programs – Faith in Action Everyday Interactions Proper Billing Procedures: Do we share “why” and what we do with it Proactively remind before a deadline is missed Fraternal Benefits: Are we able to articulate our fraternal benefits and how great they are?

Council Retention Committee Proactive & Reactive Meets: monthly Made up of: Officers, Trustees, Chairmen and/or 1 member for every 10 Knights Discusses: Member review, Delinquent members & who’s following up with each member
