Presentation transcript:

Learning Target: I can state a claim and support it with evidence from a text. Do Now: Think back to the four myths we studied in class. With a partner, summarize each myth!

Developing a short response Let’s look at a video about creating appropriate topic sentences! As you watch the video, jot down any important ideas about creating a topic sentence. ***Remember, this will determine how the rest of your paragraph will sound!

Filling in your ideas! Now that you know how to form the topic sentence, how will you fill in the rest?

Writing Task Write a one paragraph response explaining the strongest/most interesting literary element in your favorite folktale. In your response, you must give evidence for why this element was so successful in the story.

Sample Topic Sentences The most interesting literary element in “Algon and the Sky Girl” was magic because it was unusual and played a big role in the story. The most important element in “Algon and the Sky Girl” was the moral because despite the crude example, it played a big role in explaining the do’s and don’ts of love.

Workshopping your Paragraph Begin creating your short response! Make sure your answer is complete and neatly “TIED” together! Remember to proof read and make sure that: Your ideas are clear Your voice is heard the loudest You have evidence You analyzed this evidence

Summary and Wrap Up On the index card, please write a topic sentence for the following paragraph: Oceans are very large bodies of salt water, while lakes are much smaller bodies of fresh water. Lakes are usually surrounded by land, while oceans are what surround continents. Both have plants and animals living in them. The ocean is home to the largest animals on the planet, whereas lakes support much smaller forms of life. When it is time for a vacation, both will make a great place to visit and enjoy.
