ALGEBRA I @ STATISTICS

The numbers below represent the text messages sent by teenagers in a day : 34 17 56 65 102 88 34 78 70 54 49 87 111 10 85 78 83 80 62 99 1) Let’s put the numbers in order from least to greatest.

MEASURES OF CENTRAL TENDENCY MEAN : the average of a set of data. MEDIAN : the middle number when a data set is arranged in order. When there is an even number of data values, the median is the average of the two middle numbers. MODE : the data item that occurs the most often. There can be no mode, one mode, or more than one mode.

2) Find the mean of our data set. 3) Find the median. 4) Find the mode. OUTLIER : a data value that is much greater than or less than the other values. 5) Does there appear to be any outliers in our data set?

RANGE : the range of a set of data is the difference between the largest number and the smallest number. 6) Find the range of our data set.

FREQUENCY TABLE : groups a set of data into intervals and shows the frequency for each interval. # Text Messages Frequency 0-20 21-40 41-60 61-80 81-100 101-120 7) Complete the frequency table using our data set.

8) Make a histogram of our data set. HISTOGRAM : is a graph that can display the data from a frequency table. A histogram has one bar for each interval of the table. There are no gaps between the bars and the bars are the same width. 8) Make a histogram of our data set.

CUMULATIVE FREQUENCY TABLE : shows the number of data values that lie in or below a given value. # Text Messages Frequency 0-20 21-40 41-60 61-80 81-100 101-120 CUMULATIVE FREQUENCY 9) Complete the cumulative frequency table using our data set.

A box and whiskers plot is a graph set on a number line that consists of three parts : a box and two whiskers.

ALGEBRA I - SECTIONS 12-2 to 12-4 (Statistics) 7/7/2019 10) Draw a box and whiskers plot of our data set. Find the value of x such that the data set has the given mean. 11) 56, 63, 79, 82, x; mean 70 12) 3.2, 4.7, 6.8, 1.9, x; mean 5
