Essential Stuff Essential Question Essential Vocabulary How do you solve radical equations? Essential Vocabulary Radical Equation Rational Exponent Extraneous Solution

Solving Radical Equations Radical Equation: An equation with variables in the radicand or variables with a rational exponent.

Steps to solve a radical equation… Isolate the radical on one side of the equation Raise both sides of the equation to the same power Solve for the variable Check for extraneous solutions

Solving Radical Equations Some radical equations have variables under two different radicals. Put radicals with variables on opposite sides and raise both sides to same power to eliminate radicals. If equation has a rational exponent, change to a radical and then solve. Guided Practice
