Activities are levels bronze-gold with a bonus trophy round. Speed Distance – time graphs Motion Forces Activities are levels bronze-gold with a bonus trophy round. 1 stamp for completing all bronze, 2 for all silver, 3 for all gold. Bonus stamp if you complete a trophy level question. Draw lines along the folds to make 8 boxes of equal size. Then write the titles in the boxes like on the slide. Moments Pressure Hooke’s Law Work Done

Speed Bronze Level: What is the equation used to calculate speed? Can you put it into an equation triangle? A Squirrel runs 1000m in 500s, what is its speed? Silver Level: A polar bear walks for 1 minute at 2 m/s, what distance does it walk? Gold Level: A crocodile runs 240m at 3 m/s, how long does it run for in minutes?

Trophy Level A car travels at 20 km/hr. How long does it take to go 60 km and (b) 5 km? For (b) answer in minutes.

Distance-Time graphs Bronze Level: Can you draw a rough distance time graph to show something travelling 100m in 10s. Make sure you label your axis and include units. Silver Level: Can you explain how to calculate speed from your graph? Gold Level: Draw a distance time graph for this story: In a Mario Kart race, Mario travelled 200m in 10 , he then hit a wall and stopped for 5s. He then drove 100m the wrong way before he fell of the track and stopped for 10s. He then unlocked star power and travelled 500m in 5s.

Trophy Level The graph below shows the journey of a teacher to school. The speed limit along the journey is 20 m/s. The total journey takes 7 minutes. Was the teacher travelling within the speed limit from 180 to 420 seconds? Give a reason using data. Calculate the average speed for the journey.

Motion Bronze Level: What is relative motion? How do you calculate relative motion for two objects moving the same direction? How do you calculate relative motion for two objects moving in opposite directions? Silver Level: Two cars are approaching each other. One is travelling at 30 mph whilst the other is travelling at 50 mph. What is their relative speed? Two cars are approaching each other. One is travelling at 20 m/s whilst the other is travelling at 30 m/s. What is there relative speed? Gold Level: If you are seated in a train travelling at 25 m/s, then what is your relative motion to the railway line and to your seat?

Trophy Level Consider the following: You are paddling to cross a 624m wide river. There is a camp site directly across the river. Your paddling speed is 3m/s; however the water is pushing on you at 2m/s in the southern direction. (Down) What is the combined speed of the canoe? How long will it take you to reach the river bank?

Forces Bronze Level: What do forces do? What are the names of the main forces? What do we use to measure forces? Silver Level: Can you draw the forces acting on a runner at a constant speed? Are they Balanced? Gold Level: Can you draw the forces acting on a runner at as they are accelerating? Are they Balanced?

Trophy Level Work out the direction that this flying saucer will go in.

Moments Bronze Level: What is the equation used to calculate moments? Can you put it in an equation triangle? Stick in your box and fill in the blanks: The turning effect of a force around a pivot is called a ____________. You can increase the moment by increasing the ________ or the distance from the ___________. Silver Level: Jenny puts a book on her desk. She lifts the cover up with her finger using a force of 0.5N. Calculate the turning moment on the cover of the book. Include units. Gold Level: If a see-saw is balanced, what does that tell you about the clockwise and anticlockwise moments?

Trophy Level Page 11 KS3 book

Pressure Bronze Level: Can you write a definition of pressure? What is the equation for pressure? Can you put it into and equation triangle? A Box of chocolate bars weighs 180N. Its base has an area of 0.09 m2. What pressure does it apply to the ground. Silver Level: A polar bear walks for 1 minute at 2 m/s, what distance does it walk? A crocodile runs 240m at 3 m/s, how long does it run for? Gold Level: Draw a picture of a drawing pin. Label on it high surface area, low surface area, high pressure and low pressure.

Trophy Level Why does a balloon blow up when you blow into it? Answer in terms of pressure.

Hooke’s Law Silver Level: Bronze Level: What is Hooke’s Law? What equation do we use to show Hooke’s Law? Can you put it in an equation triangle? If my spring constant is 25 N/m and my extension is 0.3 m what force did I apply? Silver Level: If I have a spring that is 75mm long and I add a force of 250 N and it stretches to 125 mm long, what is the extension of my spring? What effect does adding more force have on my extension? Gold Level: Use your answer from Silver level to calculate the spring constant for my spring. What does the spring constant tell us?

Trophy Level Can you give an example of something that might shows Hooke’s law that isn’t a spring?

Work done Bronze Level: What is work done? What equation do we use to calculate work? Can you put it into an equation triangle? How much work is done if I am lifting a 250N box 2m off the ground? Silver Level: How much work is done cycling: 500m against friction forces of 20 N? 2km with an average force of 32N? Gold Level: Daisy uses 2.5 kJ of energy by moving a chair 56 cm. What is the weight of the chair?

Trophy Level Bricks with a mass of 1.5 kg each are lifted onto a platform with a mass of 3 kg. Find the work done if 50 bricks are lifted onto the platform. Weight (N) = Mass (g) x 10
