WHAT IS CLIMATE CHANGE?? Environmental scientist defines Climate Change as a long-term change in the statistical distribution of weather patterns over periods of time that range from decades to millions of years. Climate change may be limited to a specific region, or may occur across the whole earth United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) defines climate change as "a change of climate which is attributed directly or indirectly to human activity.”

FUTURE CLIMATE THREATS Rising Temperature Melting of Glaciers Climate Refugees Agriculture and Livestock Decline Water Stress and Food Insecurity Sea Level Rise, Storms, Droughts and River Flooding Deforestation Fisheries Crises Species Extinction

GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGE AND PEOPLE’s VULNERABILITY IN PAKISTAN Poor developing country High vulnerability to natural disasters Poor infrastructure and water management, land degradation, deforestation and environmental pollution due to lack of EIA and SIA Slow process and political barriers in policy implication Increasing pressure on natural resources because of internal and cross-border wars

PAKISTAN’s ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY Federal and provincial environmental policies Effective management of natural resources Different strategies, plans and programs to pursue environmental policy One goal and one mission
