Organizational Patterns

Cause and Effect Describes an event or action that is caused by or effects another event or action. Key words: because, as a result of, due to, in effect, therefore, etc.

Sequential Order Ideas are presented in the order that they occurred. Key Words: first, next, then, finally, etc.

Descriptive/Classification Presents ideas in smaller topics or parts that are based on shared or common characteristics. Key Words: categories, groups, features, elements, kinds, types, methods, for example, known as, for instance, specifically, etc.

Order of Importance Presents information from the most important information to the least important information, or vice versa Key Words: key, major, primary, finally, least, most, significant, chief, etc.

Proposition and Support Presents a proposition on a topic and supports with logical ideas relating to the proposition. Key Word: according to, in support, for example, etc.
